Having a beginning reader is a very exciting thing. It could be pretty scary too. We know as parents, we are our children’s first teachers. And teaching reading for beginners is a huge undertaking and can be slightly overwhelming. As parent’s we don’t always know everything about every subject. For example, when teaching our child how to read, we are programmed to start with the alphabet. This normally starts in preschool - ages 3 years old and below. Then we move to the phonetic alphabet, teaching the sounds each letter of the alphabet makes. Again, this is our normal progression.
